The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, was approved by the Constitutional Court on 4 December 1996 and took effect on 4 February 1997. It is the supreme law of the land and no other law or government action can supersede the provisions of the Constitution. Chapter two deals with the Bill of Rights and as a citizen of the Republic you have specific rights in terms of freedom and security of a person. You have the right to stand up for your rights and it is strongly recommended that you familiarise yourself with the Constitution
